2026 IRS standard mileage rates
| Period | Business | Medical / eligible moving | Charity |
|---|---|---|---|
| Jan 1–Jun 30, 2026 | 72.5¢/mile | 20.5¢/mile | 14¢/mile |
| Jul 1–Dec 31, 2026 | 76¢/mile | 23.5¢/mile | 14¢/mile |
The IRS revised the 2026 business and medical/moving rates effective July 1, 2026. The charitable rate remains fixed at 14 cents per mile.
Calculation method
- Mileage amount = miles × applicable standard mileage rate.
- The applicable rate depends on the mileage purpose and the date the transportation expense was paid or incurred.
Important limits
A calculated amount does not by itself establish that a mileage deduction or tax-free reimbursement is allowed. Eligibility, substantiation, vehicle rules, accountable plans, and deduction limits can change the tax treatment.
The moving-purpose option is labeled for eligible military use because moving deductions are restricted. Check the current IRS guidance for your circumstances.
