How it works
Required final score = (target grade − current grade × (1 − final weight)) ÷ final weight, with the weight expressed as a decimal.

Worked examples
- With an 80 current grade, a final worth 20%, and an 82 target, the required final score is 90.
- With an 85 current grade, a final worth 30%, and an 85 target, the required final score is 85.

Common questions
What if the required score is above 100%?
Under a standard 0–100 grading system, that target would be unreachable without extra credit or another grading adjustment.
What if the required score is below 0%?
It means the target is already secured mathematically under the entered weighting, even with a zero on the final.
Does every school use this exact grading policy?
No. The arithmetic is general, but grade-point scales, weighting rules and rounding policies can vary by institution. Compare the inputs and method with your school’s rules.
Can I use decimal scores or credits?
Yes where your institution permits them. The calculator accepts decimal values and applies the displayed weighting formula.
