RMD Calculator 2026
Estimate your 2026 required minimum distribution from a retirement account using the IRS Uniform Lifetime Table.
Calculation method
- Use the retirement-account balance as of December 31, 2025.
- Find the IRS Uniform Lifetime Table divisor for your age in 2026.
- 2026 RMD = prior-year-end balance ÷ applicable divisor.
For example, the Uniform Lifetime divisor at age 75 is 24.6. A $500,000 prior-year-end balance would therefore produce an estimated RMD of about $20,325.20.
This calculator is for an account owner using the IRS Uniform Lifetime Table. It does not calculate inherited-account RMDs. If your spouse is your sole beneficiary and is more than 10 years younger than you, the IRS Joint and Last Survivor Table generally applies instead. Employer-plan timing rules can also differ.
Who generally starts RMDs?
For the 2026 tax year, the applicable starting age for the cohort reaching the current RMD threshold is 73. Under current law, later cohorts can have a different applicable age, so this page is intentionally scoped to 2026. A first RMD may be delayed until April 1 of the following year, but delaying it can result in two taxable RMDs in that following calendar year.
